一、教学目标

(一)课程教学目标:

教学章节:《新一代大学英语》第二册,第六单元

教学内容:Unit 6:单元主题To be or not to be(主题:人生选择)

关于对专业及职业选择的思考

教学目标:(1)语言目标:能使用新的词汇、语句结构讨论人生选择

能掌握前缀en-”和后缀的用法

能学会并运用英译汉中的增译法

2)能力目标:能讲述专业选择的经历与体验

能就如何选择合适的专业给出建议

能阐述自己对择业就业的看法

(二)思政育人目标:

1)能够调节心态,树立良好的人生观、择业观

2)能够运用所学词汇和句式阐述如何积极地面对人生中的重大选择

3)能够提高思辨能力,科学进行职业规划

二、案例开展的意义和价值

本单元主题是人生选择,其中的两篇课文主题都属于大学生生活经历中最重要的两个选择之一。第一篇课文主题为专业选择,是大学生已做过的抉择,通过第一篇课文的学习,学生能够思考自己的专业,调节好自己的心态,了解到专业选择并不能决定他们的未来,从而树立良好的人生观。

第二篇课文主题为职业选择,是大学生未来要面对的抉择,通过第二篇课文的学习,学生能够提前思考职业选择这一问题,了解到不同的择业观点,提高思辨能力,为未来科学地进行职业规划奠定良好的基础。

此外,通过两篇课文的学习,学生能够运用所学的新词汇和句式来阐述如何积极面对人生中的这两大重要抉择,并以作文的形式分享自己的观点,完成单元的任务,将本单元所传递的积极内涵与思辨观点融入自己的语言使用中。

三、案例内容

 本单元思政点:在做重大的人生决定方面,帮助学生培养积极乐观的心态,树立正确的人生观、择业观。In terms of making life-changing decisions, students can develop positive attitudes and build correct views of life and employment.

1. iPrepare: 呈现单元交际场景,激发学习动力

You are invited by your senior high school to contribute an essay to help Grade 3 students who will be choosing their majors. In your essay, you will describe your experience of choosing a major, reflect on it, and then give suggestions.

2. iExplore 1: How an economics professor taught me a life-changing lesson in literature

观看“专业选择”主题视频,思考专业选择时所考虑的因素,思考目前专业学习的情况。

2Text understanding

①背景知识层面思政元素:

The author, Miles Corwin, was once a student in community college. But after great efforts, he went to UC Santa Barbara and received his M.A. at the University of Missouri School of Journalism. He worked as a crime reporter for the Los Angeles Times and is now professor at UC Irvine.

Note: community college is a higher education institution that provides a two-year curriculum that can lead to an associate’s degree. Many students suspend their studies here. But from the author’s experience, we can see that where there is a will, there is a way.

②篇章理解层面思政元素:

通过让学生快速阅读,引发学生进一步思考,了解课文整体内涵,体会到大学专业并不代表一个人的未来,且只有努力者才能成功。同时,通过整篇文章内容,让学生感受到文科学习具有一定的重要性

Maybe reading novels wasn’t just an escape and diversion. Maybe the study of literature would be a worthwhile pursuit. And if I could succeed as a literature student, maybe it would lead me in a direction that might enhance my career prospects. (Para. 10)

讲解diversion, pursuit, prospect三个词汇时,让学生同时思考以下三个问题:

Do you have the feeling of escape and diversionwhen studying this major?

Is your major a worthwhile pursuit?

What’s your career prospect?

Students might have some difficulties when studying the major, by thinking up these three questions and encouraging them,they can regain a new view on study and life.

通过马克思这段话,使学生理解正确择业观,引入课文内容,让学生思考择业这一话题。

Thisconstant doubt generates anxiety and chronic job-hopping.

Q:Is job-hopping a normal thing in your opinion?通过对跳槽这一问题的思考,引导学生树立正确的择业观。

4. iProduce单元任务输出评价

Writing an essay: the authors of the two texts tell us how they chose their major or future career. One took his professor's advice to follow his interest and changed his major. The other took a very different path by letting passion follow him. How did you decide on your major? Do you think that you made a good choice?

You have studied in college for several months. After going through some difficulties or problems, you are more confident in your study. Now you are invited by your senior high school to share your experience of choosing your major with Grade 3 students who will be choosing their majors. You will write an essay in which you reflect on how you chose your major and then give suggestions.

5. 课后练习思政元素:

Translate the sentences into Chinese:

(1) Once you choose a path to take, that decision comes with necessary next steps and responsibilities.

一旦你选择了一条道路,这一决定就意味着下一步要制定种种计划,承担各种责任。

(2) Companies are more open to failure than they've been in the past. That's why ambitious young professionals – and women in particular – are encouraged to take calculated risks(可预计的风险).

The lessons learned will be just as valuable in failure as they would be in success.

各家公司现在对失败的态度比过去更开明。因此我们鼓励有抱负的年轻专业人士,尤其是女性,承担一些可预计的风险。从失败中吸取的教训与从成功中获得的经验同样珍贵。

(3) Sometimes just quitting a job because it's boring is the wrong thing to do, but thinking about where you want to be and if you need more education is good planning.

有时候,仅仅因为工作枯燥乏味而辞职并不是明智之举。但是思考一下你到底想要什么,或者是否需要深造,这不无益处。

(4) We’ve all hit that point where we can’t figure out exactly whatreally want to do with our lives. It can come when you’re 18 orwhen you’re 50, and it’s always a difficult process to workthrough.

我们都有过那样的时候,我们无法确切地弄清楚我们生活中到底想要什么。那可能是我们18 岁的时候,也可能是50 岁的时候,而且那会是一个很难应对的过程。

四、教学反思

1.思政元素要融合地自然、恰当

针对英语教材思政元素的结合点,仍需不断挖掘、商讨,要与时事相结合,与党的最新政策和方针相结合。同时,在讲解时要融入地自然、恰当,让学生体会到所传达的观念。

2.以多种形式引起学生兴趣

本单元主题是“人生选择”,此话题离学生有一定距离。比如,学生在理解就业观念时有一点困难。因此,可以引入多种形式,如相关主题视频展示,学生情景对话等,帮助学生理解单元主题。
